Process Paper
How/why did you choose your topic?: I chose to talk about Martin Luther King Jr. because when the theme was released on what our project were going to be about, I believe he best fits the theme very well, leadership and legacy. I chose to pick Martin Luther King Jr. because he was able to do so much in the African American community. Even though he was faced with many hardships while trying to bring about social change, he never gave up and persevered. I believe without Martin Luther King Jr's leadership and abilities, the Civil Rights Movement and social change would not have been accomplished as quickly without him driving it forward.
How I found my source: Fortunately for me, my teacher and our library assistant were able to show us many great source search engines such as Gale. Gale is where I got most of my sources online. The website provided me with many great sources, both primary and secondary. There was a wide range of sources to chose from, from books to audio and pictures. My most important sources helped me by giving me an idea of what Martin Luther King Jr. did in order to bring about social change in society. They also provided me with an overview of his life, his achievements, and legacy he left behind.
How my topic fits into this year's theme: I believe my topic, Martin Luther King Jr., fits into the theme of leadership and legacy for a number of reason. King represents the theme of leadership due to the fact that he was a prominent leader in the Civil Rights movement. Martin Luther King Jr. was the face of the civil Rights movement, organizing boycotts, marches, and other forms of peaceful protest in order to bring about social change. He gave many people hope in a time of depression due to discrimination and social injustice. As for the other part of the theme, legacy, Martin Luther King Jr. is a prime example of someone who has a great legacy. Martin Luther King Jr's efforts lead to events such as the Montgomery Bus Boycott and the March on Washington. These events later lead to things, such as the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Act which gave African Americans and other minorities more rights. King was a pivotal influence on these such events. Even though he is not with us today, he still leaves a great legacy.
